“Chaney is the worst school that i have ever gone to this includes winsconsin and oklahoma they have no disapline uniform is the dumbest thing ever it dosent work they dont care about it the teachers dont teach rules change like the wind were not allowed to use the rest rooms during class because they cant control there kids the staff is horrible and the school is in genaral if you have a A average you will propley have a C ant wear esle i hate wakeing up to go every morning”

“I really feel that Chaney is just one of the many wonderful aspects of Youngstown. I graduated from there in 2004. I have since relocated to Virgina Beach. I do believe that the teachers concentrate on the students individualy.”

“I am a 2004 graduate of Chaney High School, and I am now a pharmacy major at the University of Toledo. I feel that Chaney has truly prepared me for my college education. My classes in high school were challenging because I chose to take the more accelerating courses. The teachers were wonderful, and were always available if you needed extra help. Mr. Spencer, the principal, does everything that he can to keep Chaney united and to get kids involved in their academics and extracurricular activites. Chaney is a great school, and I couldn't imagine attending any other high school.”

“The school offers significant benefits and deficits. The staff at CHS are highly skilled, vested professionals who face academic, social, ethnic and economic diversity with integrity and endless enthusiasm. For students who want to learn and work hard, the educational opportunities at Chaney High are very good. However, academic expectations are minimal. Communication between school and home are very poor. Parental involvement and support are entirely discouraged. Dress codes are unreasonable and 'dress down days' are the school's most successful means of fundraising. Federal assesments are, at best, inaccurate. CHS is a violent atmosphere, although drastic steps are made to control the discipline. Removal of a student is difficult and often involves 'legal' consequences for parents.”

“In my four years of high school I feel that I have been blessed. I have experienced many things that have prepared me to excell in my future. I did not learn my life skills from a private or suburban school, but rather a wonderful high school that is said to be in 'academic emergency'. Chaney is truely the best kept secret of the Youngstown area. It is quite a shame that they are in a distric with other unstable schools which lower the standards. The small envirnoment at Chaney allows students to bond, as well as take part in many extracurriculars which help to mold students into outgoing individuals. Soon I will open a new chapter in my life and begin college at Westminster, a private institution. However, I will always remember my roots as a product of the public education system for which I am truely proud.”

“I am a student at Chaney. My name is Angie and I am a sophomore. There is absolutley no other school in Youngstown that I would even dream of going to. Our school has a great staff. The teachers put in hours to help us before, during, and after school. One could never ask for a better principal than Mr. Robert Spencer. He is a kind man full of spirit and pride for the Chaney Cowboys. He sets up programs at school to get the student body involved in volunteering and other extracurricular activities. He attends all of the games, for all teams. I feel that I get a wonderful education here at Chaney. I wont say its easy work, my classes are challenging and fun. All in all, Chaney High School is a great school for any student to attend, whether you're looking at academics or athletics. Go Cowboys!”

“Chaney provides a terrible atmosphere for learning. Many of their teachers are lazy and have no control of the classroom. I could remember a lot of times, teachers would leave the classroom unoccupied for a long period of time. To make things worse there were plenty of disruptive students that attended Chaney High. There were days that the teacher wouldn't even teach for the day because he/she had to dicipline the class for the whole class period. The one good attribute of Chaney High is they dicipline their students.I always felt like I was in the millitary insead of high school when I attended Chaney. They have low standards at Chaney. The only expectations that their principal Mr. Spencer had for the students was to attend class and beahve yourself. If your child needs dicipline Chaney High is the school for you.If your looking to send your child to get an education and an atmoshpere conductive for learning than Chaney High is the wrong place.”
