McKinley High School Reviews

I know this is a dedicated staff who cares about the students and their academics. Anyone who says that basketball and cheerleading is more important than academics has not spent enough time in this school. Many times, Sebring teachers have gone above and beyond to help their students. My own children have been challenged to excel and seek opportunities such as Destination Imagination,Academic Challenge, and the Chemistry Olympiad. Students have had poems publilshed in national publications, and the school newspaper staff has received numerous awards. Academics seem to be a top priority here. At the same time, I know the dedication and encouragement of the special education teachers keep many at-risk students in school. The staff is dedicated, the administration is dedicated, and the board of education is committed to giving Sebring students all it can.

Excellent, safe, beautiful schools that are the heartbeat of the community. A beuatiful facility and hometown teachers that give personal attention to every student.

I do not believe this to be a professionally operated school. Most of the teachers are here because they are tenured, not because they care about the kids - hard to get accepted into college after going to Sebring HS - they do not focus near enough on academics, they only care about their basketball team. Very limited as to arts, music and other available sports. Parents are only involved if their children play basketball or are cheerleaders. There is also a problem with their acceptance of 'challenged' students. My daughter fared well here, as she was a cheerleader. My son was not welcomed as he has a learning disability that the teachers are not familiar with. The special education director/principal told us to put him elsewhere. He is now in another district and is managing well - mainstreamed. Sebring does not care enough about the quality of their academics.
